Historical Background

The Office of the Vice President for Administration was established alongside the official opening of Assumption University in 1972. At that time, the institution operated as Assumption Business Administration College (ABAC), and the office functioned as a division under the name “Administrative Division.” Its primary objective was to facilitate and support the University’s four core missions—1) Teaching and Learning, 2) Research, 3) Arts and Cultural Preservation, and 4) Academic Services to Society—ensuring they operated efficiently. During that period, its responsibilities included campus facilities, educational standards, curriculum approval requests, legal affairs, security, and human resources management.

As the workload across various areas expanded and the University underwent rapid development, the executive management separated human resources from the Administrative Division in 1975 to establish a dedicated Human Resources Division. Later, in 1988, educational standards affairs were transferred to the Academic Affairs Division. In 2003, the Administrative Division was elevated to a bureau-level unit named the “Office of the Assistant to the Vice President for Administration.” Subsequently, in 2006, its status and title were updated once again to the “Office of the Vice President for Administration” (hereinafter referred to as “the Office”).

In Academic Year 2017, an organizational restructuring took place: the Instructional Materials and Examination Division, the Legal and Administrative Affairs Division, and the Information Center were reassigned to operate under the Office of the Vice President for Legal and Special Affairs.

In Academic Year 2018, the management of the His Majesty the King’s Golden Jubilee Forest Park in Kanchanaburi Province was transferred under the oversight of the Office, while the management of the 10-story parking building was placed under the responsibility of the Suvarnabhumi Campus Buildings and Grounds Division. Furthermore, in Academic Year 2019, the Security and Traffic Department was transferred to operate under the supervision of the Office up to the present.
